BirthDAY Fun at the Jacksonville Zoo!

While we celebrated with Liam’s 5th birthday party the weekend before the BIG day, we still wanted to make his actual birthDAY special. So, we packed the boys up & headed to my dad & stepmom’s in Jacksonville for the weekend. We spent his 5th birthday at the Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens, and we all enjoyed it so much! I have to say that we’ve been to the zoos in our immediate area fairly recently, but this one takes the cake {total pun intended}.

2016-07-31_Jacksonville Zoo_Liam 5th Bday 060

The whole park was absolutely beautiful — the grounds & all the scenery, as well as the animals, of course. I loved that the animals had enormous free areas to be in, and yet, we could still see them so up close. Also, given the extreme Florida temps, there was an abundance of shade to keep us cool, plus fabulous “cool spots” throughout. These were actually air conditioned viewing areas….can we say awesome?!?! There is also a super cute splash pad for the kiddos. We didn’t get a chance to do that on this trip, but we’ll definitely be back!

2016-07-31_Jacksonville Zoo_Liam 5th Bday 011

They have a train that runs all along the perimeter of the park with a stop at the entrance of the park and another at the back. Once you buy your ticket, you can literally ride around all day. So fun! This was one of Liam’s favorite parts of the day. We rode it 3 times πŸ™‚

There was bamboo all over the zoo & the guide on the train told us that it was used for both shade and a sound barrier to the animals from the main road that the zoo sits on. I thought that was pretty neat!

Peek-a-Boo!

2016-07-31_Jacksonville Zoo_Liam 5th Bday 054

There were so many interesting sights all throughout the zoo. This was the Tiger Skywalk. Β The tigers can actually walk across those bridges from their enclosures. So cool!

2016-07-31_Jacksonville Zoo_Liam 5th Bday 051

This waterfall in the tigers area was so majestic to walk into & see, and they were awesome to sit & watch! They are such big cats & so beautiful.

2016-07-31_Jacksonville Zoo_Liam 5th Bday 048

On our way out, we caught one of them dropping down from the skywalk & grabbing a snack. It was crazy to be so close to him & he totally didn’t care we were there πŸ˜‰

A snapshot of some of the gardens area. It’s hard to see, but some of the trees in the distance are blue!

We had the best day with our little man at the Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens to ring in his 5th birthday! Definitely made some great memories! ❀ ….and, I still cannot believe our little baby boy is FIVE!! Facebook keeps showing me flashback memories from 5 years ago of all of these pics from his 1st weeks home & it’s totally tugging at my heartstrings. Don’t ya love it?!?!

Until next time, friends,

Star Spangled Fun ~ 2016

The 4th of July weekend has evolved into an important little family tradition for us. While it’s not a major holiday filled with all the hustle & bustle most of us are accustomed to, it’s one that we’ve definitely grown to look forward to with our little man. We usually have one or two low-key family hangouts over the long weekend, and of course, fireworks.

To link up to last year’s fun, click HERE

2013’s festivities — HERE

We kicked off our weekend with some birthday fun at Monkey Joe’s for one of Liam’s friends from Pre-K, Jase. There were several of his little buddies there from school, and some of them hadn’t see one another since graduation a few weeks back. Needlesstosay, these boys had a great afternoon!

Sunday evening, we caught up with some friends for yummy dinner & dessert. Take a look at that smores dip! …it was delish! The kiddos had a grand ‘ole time with sparklers, too. I don’t think we could let a 4th go by without sparklers πŸ˜‰

2016-07-04_Fourth of July 023

All the holiday festivities didn’t start for us on Monday until later in the day, so I got a brilliant idea to go to the park & splash pad with little man…instead of the pool. I told him it would be fun to change things up. OMGEE….it’s been so hot…I think we both questioned my judgement later on πŸ™‚ ….still had fun, though & was all smiles!

We decided to give the fireworks at Avalon Park a try this year in an effort to stick closer to home since we had work & camp the next morning. We way underestimated the number of people that we thought would be there. Parking was crazy!!

2016-07-04_Fourth of July 012

Despite the massive amount of people crowding the streets in Avalon, we managed to find awesome seats in the grass right on the lake. These two sweaty boys were still all smiles!

Our {Long} Weekend Recap

We headed to my dad & stepmom’s up in Jacksonville for Memorial Day weekend, and we had a great time with them. We don’t get a chance to take many overnight trips, or ‘get-aways’ so it’s always nice to head up there when we can.

2016-05-29_Enzos Dinner Jax 002

It was a relaxing & laid back weekend, overall. Those are always the best ones, right? Liam loved helping his Papa-G and G-Ma with various tasks around their house πŸ˜‰ …Here’s a pic we snapped of Liam helping bake some cookies ❀

We all enjoyed some fun in the sun out at the MOST gorgeous beach house in the Ponte Vedra area. The weather was beautiful & the we soaked in the rays & splashed in the water. This view will never get old….

Catching Up

I mentioned in my previous post that through the craziness that is life, I’ve gone on a hiatus from blogging, so let’s try to catch up! We’ve definitely been busy these last few months….so, here are some highlights:

Rainbow Border

At the beginning of March, Liam went on his very 1st field trip! It was to the movies with his class at Pre-K, and they saw Zootopia. He had a blast, but I have to tell you that his most favorite part of the entire experience was riding the school bus! The director took this pic of him before they left. She said his face lit up when they got on the bus & started pulling away. It was all he could talk about when I picked him up. They could have just drove around the block & he would have been thrilled. LOL! He has seen the daycare’s school bus for the last few years each day, and has always asked when he would get to ride it. So, you see, this was a BIG deal!

2016-03-24_1st KRK Field Trip_Movies3

Easter came early for us this year. It fell during the last weekend of March. We really love the Easter Bunny in Casa de Murphy & he brought lots of fun goodies for wee-man again this year ❀

2016-03-27_Easter1

Liam woke up before the sun came up….although at bedtime, he cautiously asked if EB would be gone before he got up. He loves him but he does not want to see that gigantic guy….lol! Can’t really blame him for that…I think the mall EB’s have left an impression on him. However, all of that was forgotten when he woke up, and he was stoked as he went through his basket & checked everything out.

2016-03-27_Easter4

The EB always hides eggs in the front yard & this year was no different. However, there was no deterring this 4 year old’s excitement. So…..we hunted eggs in the dark (before 7 a.m.) WITH a flash light. It was awesome!

2016-03-27_Easter8

I’ve mentioned in previous posts that I wanted our little family to get back into church, as well as give this essential foundation to Liam, so he could build his own relationship with the Lord. I’m very happy to say that we found a wonderful church home early this year & it’s just been a blessing for us all. Service on Easter Sunday was great!

2016-03-27_Easter21

Easter weekend was jammed packed for us! It also brought on Stephen’s BIG 40th Birthday! We always share Liam’s milestones, but this was definitely one for Daddy πŸ˜‰

2016-03-25_Stephen 40thBday2

Since his big day fell on a Friday, we had a yummy dinner out at Kobe with friends.

2016-03-25_Stephen 40thBday8

The next day, we celebrated with our little guy ❀

2016-03-25_Stephen 40thBday14

The festivities continued right after the weekend, as my mom flew in from North Carolina for a few days. Liam was so excited to see his Grammy, as we hadn’t visited with her since she moved up there last summer. It was a great time with her πŸ™‚

2016-03-30_Disney Springs 5

While she was down here, we spent the afternoon at Disney Springs. I hadn’t been out there in forever, and was really impressed with all the renovations & changes. We will definitely be back, again, soon!

So fun that there are a few rides for the littles there now, too!

In April, I had the pleasure of working alongside my fellow Orlando Moms Blog mamas for Bloom 2016. It was a great time & a huge success.

Are ya still with me? πŸ™‚ ….We’re almost caught up!

At the beginning of this month {May}, we met up with our FABULOUS swim instructor, Ms. Katie Mosley from SwimSproutΒ for our spring swim refresher lessons for Mr. Liam. If you’ve been following along with us over the last few years, then you know we’ve been swimming with them & Liam has been doing amazingly well in the water. Here’s a look back HERE and HERE. This season was no different, except that it will most likely be our last refresher with Ms. Katie, as Liam has been doing so well, and is now at a point with his muscle memory, that he is retaining his skill. So proud of him!

He has quickly gone from his basic swim-float-swim to jumping off the side of the pool & also diving for rings. We can already tell that this summer is going to be super fun poolside!

2016-05-21_Pool Time

Last, but certainly, not least, is an impromptu Β dance performance little man graced us with after dinner over the weekend. I have laughed every time I have watched this. He loves to dance & is SO good at it. Love this kid!! I posted a snippet of this on IG & FB, but this is the full-length feature πŸ™‚ ….Enjoy!!

Until next time, friends!

Fun at the Zoo

We took a trip to the Central Florida Zoo on a Sunday afternoon just the other weekend, and it was so much fun checking out all the animal friends! This was our 1st visit to this particular zoo, and honestly, the 1st time Liam was feeling like he was going to the zoo, as he doesn’t really remember our previous trip to the Brevard Zoo a while back. Crazy as it seems, that trip was just about 3 years ago….so yeah, I guess little man really wouldn’t remember it at this age. πŸ™‚

Rhinos! Liam said after we got home that these were his favorite animals that he saw there. When we got up to them, they were wrestling (playing?) over the mud pit area ….lol! We stood here & watched them for a bit.

This turtle was huge!! We love these guys so were excited to say hi to him. P.S. — there is a reptile exhibit house that we checked out & Liam was very into. This mama just couldn’t bring herself to take any pics of it…lol!

Checking out the bald eagle….

2016-04-10_Central FL Zoo 018

We took a little spin on the train they have at the front of the zoo. It chugs along through the front of the property. Very enjoyable!

2016-04-10_Central FL Zoo 020

Family selfie on the train.

2016-04-10_Central FL Zoo 001

We had a great afternoon at the zoo, and the weather was gorgeous! I love little trips like this because it’s both educational for our wee-man and an adventure. Definitely a win-win! On our list still is to take him to the Jacksonville Zoo and the Lowry Park Zoo.

We also have passes here at the Central Florida Zoo for a few more months, and they have a pretty cool splash pad for the kiddos….so, we’ll definitely be back again, as the temps are already heating back up πŸ™‚

Until next time, friends!

Colorful Fun ~ Crayola Experience Orlando

Somehow, it’s been almost 2 months since I posted an update. Seriously?!?! — Definitely not from lack of activity around here. In fact, quite the opposite. Life gets busy and blogging gets put in the back seat sometimes. So much fun to catch up on, though!

******************************************

At the end of February, we spent the afternoon at the Crayola Experience Orlando. This was our 1st time visiting this attraction, and it was such a neat experience to be surrounded by all things Crayola!

Crayola 8

Right from walking in the door, you could tell this was going to be fun for the whole family. I loved the gigantic markers & crayons that decorated the entrance. Liam thought it was the greatest, too! πŸ™‚

Crayola 1

There are over 25 activities to do throughout the attraction and it’s spread across two floors. Of course, you also can’t forget to visit the Crayola Store on your way out. As pictured above, there are rows & rows of every shade of crayon AND marker you can imagine. We all were in heaven! ….We filled up a tin with all our favs ❀

Crayola 2

One of the coolΒ things you can do there is the Crayon Factory, where you can name your own shade of crayon. Liam’s favorite is green, so we did two different greens — ‘Hulk Smash Liam’ and ‘Boo Boo Man Green’ (nick-name of our fur baby).

Crayola 5

Have you ever seen this many crayons in one place?!?!

Crayola 3

The ‘Melt & Mold’ and ‘Drip Art’ activities were very engaging & you were able to choose your crayon colors for each station. We did those a few times. While the place did fill up after we were there for a bit, I loved that you could do each activity as many times as you wanted & the wait time wasn’t all that bad for any of the activities.

Crayola 4

I think we probably spent the most time here at the ‘Stomp & Play’ ….the images on the ground moved when you stomped on them. Liam had a ball with it!

Crayola 6

This, however, was Liam’s favorite part of the whole experience — The Crayon Factory. It was a live theater show starring a crayonologist, and he showed us how they make the crayons at the big factory & prepare them for shipment. It was so cool because he used the machines on stage and actually made some red crayons right in front of us…and, we got to take one with us on the way out!

Crayola 7

It was a great afternoon at the Crayola Experience! I like the mix of fun and education for the kiddos. We will definitely be back soon!

crayons

Special thanks to my fellow blogger friend, Tracy, at Around Mount Dora for sharing her comp tickets from the FL Blogger Conference! So grateful for a day of fun with the family! Note: All opinions expressed in this post are my own.

Until next time, friends!

Star Spangled Fun

We had so much fun for our holiday weekend! For a look back on the last few year’s be sure to check out here and here.

On Friday, Stephen had to work so it was just little man & me hanging out. We are huge fans of the PBS series, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, so we caught a few episodes on Netflix while playing & cleaning up. I walked by Liam’s marker board at one point in the afternoon & he told me he drew O the Owl from the show…so cute!

2015-07-03_O-the-Owl

I couldn’t help snapping a pic of this one practicing brushing his teeth solo…we do it for him but we’re also trying to teach him how to do it by himself after we do it. This was cuteness overload for me.

After we got ready for bed on Friday, we went out front to do a few small fireworks. Someone LOVES him some sparklers! If you didn’t see my latest post last week for OMB, be sure to check it out — HERE.

Our Winter Break {Part 2}

Good times continued during our winter break with our 2nd trip to the Magic Kingdom with little man. It, again, had been almost a year & a half since our 1st trip there {for his 2nd birthday celebration}. Just like with Legoland earlier in the week, he honestly didn’t remember being there before, so it was fun to re-introduce the park to him. This age is SO MUCH different than 2 years old, so it was a whole different experience, for us, as well.

We knew the park would still be crowded for holidays, and since I had never seen the Electrical Parade before, we decided to head out later than normal…..so, we didn’t get out to the gates till about 4, but the weather was gorgeous! Special thanks to my mom & her hubby for getting us tickets from their friend, who is a cast member….nothing beats that!

2015-01-03_Magic Kingdom_Castle

One of the main points of our plan for visiting the Magic Kingdom that weekend was to catch their Christmas decorations before they took them down. We had actually never been to Disney to see them before….so this was a nice “1st” experience for all of us! In true Disney magic, they really do the park up extra fancy ❀

2015-01-03_Magic Kingdom_Main Street

Over in the Storybook Circus area of Fantasyland is The Barnstormer ride. This is a junior roller coaster that guests must be 35 in. or taller to ride and just has small drops. We asked him, and Liam wanted to ride it….so, he did with Daddy πŸ™‚ ….his 1st roller coaster experience!! Oh my goodness!!

In true fashion, they sat in the back car….Liam enjoyed it, but he did tell me afterwards, that he was “alittle bit scared” ❀

Dumbo was a fav ride this time around, again. He rode with me last visit….so Daddy got a turn this time πŸ˜‰

There were a few moments that I wasn’t sure we would make it to the start of this, but YES….we held out till the 10:15 pm start of the Electrical Parade (wow, I felt old but man, that was late for us….lol!!) …poor little dude, was PASSED.OUT.COLD in his stroller by the time everything began. There literally was no waking him up….he wanted no part of it. I felt so bad, but he did wake up towards the end and managed to catch a few of the floats πŸ™‚
