It’s Christmas Time!

I just love this time of the year — the decorations, the music, the smells, the traditions ❤ ….now, if we could only talk mother nature into giving us just a tad bit cooler weather here in the sunshine state, that would be swell 😉

As soon as we got back into town from my dad’s after Thanksgiving, we broke out the decorations & got busy making the house look festive. I have to say that having an excited 4 year old as a helper this year definitely made it extra fun 😉 — I think I said his name  &  ‘careful‘  & ‘just a minute‘ at least 100 times as he helped me take things out of our storage bins. He is SO excited for Christmas this year! We had to explain what “Christmas time” meant and that we didn’t jump from Thanksgiving Day to Christmas Eve in one shot. Ha!

Placing the star on top is his favorite 🙂

Our tradition is to welcome back the Elf on the Shelf once our tree is up & decorated. So, Mr Elf did fly back from the North Pole last Saturday night, but more on that next time!

He also was thrilled to have his Little Peoples Nativity Scene back. He happily played with that for a majority of the afternoon. Made my mama heart happy ❤

Early last week, Liam was over the moon to find a letter in the mail from Santa, himself! He danced all the way down the walk way & into the house!

We headed out to Light Up UCF for an impromptu meet up with Mimi & Aunt Heather & cousin Sierra after school last week. Unfortunately, it was raining, so the lights were off…BUT, they had reindeer there that night!!! SO COOL!! — Did you know their coats are water proof??

He also got to ride the ice slide. He thought it was the greatest thing ever. Not to shabby for our Florida boy 😉

Saturday, we were all excited for our 5th Annual Gingerbread Decorating Party! This has become such a fun tradition for us both as a family & for all of us as friends. LOVE IT ❤

I asked him what his favorite part of the party was afterwards. He said “the candy” …..as in, eating it! Can’t tell, right?!?! Hahaha!!!

All done!

And, of course, let’s not forget what happened to poor last year’s masterpiece — lol!!

After the kids wrapped things up….the “big kids” (aka, Lisa & Stephen) went to town on their house. This has become these two crazies little tradition & let me tell you they take it pretty serious 🙂

At one point, when Stephen was helping Liam, I suggested a few things to add & I was told, “no, we’re saving that for later” — wow!!!

I am in LOVE with this!! ❤ ….We haven’t always been fans of Santa pics (it is kinda intimidating, right?!?!) but he did it this year! When he was done, he was so proud of himself & so were we for conquering something that he was kinda scared of. He even said, “that wasn’t bad at all!” Love that little dude so very much! We celebrated with hot chocolate!

Thanksgiving Wrap-Up

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you & your family had an awesome day with your loved ones and were able to reflect on the many blessings that we all have ❤

****************************************

We kicked our holiday weekend off with a super cute lunch at Liam’s school. Little man was thrilled to also see his daddy pop in to join us, as we thought he wasn’t going to be able to make it. It was a great time!

2015-11-25_KRK Thanksgiving Lunch

We headed up to my dad & stepmom’s house in Jacksonville for a few days, so that meant a road-trip. Timber is not as great a traveler as he was in his younger days. So, below is how he rode for the majority of the trip….in Daddy’s arms. Not to mention the fact that our normal 2 hour drive literally took us FOUR hours….SO not fun with our whining fur baby & one impatient/excited 4 year old….but, we eventually made it up there & had a great time 😉

2015-11-25_Roadtrip

Had to start our Thanksgiving morning with Macy’s Parade, right?!?! 🙂 ….I think I was more excited to watch this than Liam. LOL!

I honestly didn’t snap many pictures throughout the day, but this was a cute one. Timber was unsuccessfully begging for a hand-out 😉

We took a trip to St. Augustine to see their “Night of Lights” …the city was all decked out in beautiful white lights.  Liam was in awe & walked up & down the sidewalk singing Christmas songs to himself & us….cutest.thing.ever ❤

We asked him to stand in front of the Ponce de Leon monument to snap his pic….instead, he thought it was the perfect place to make shadow puppets…hilarious & imaginative!!!

It was a fun & relaxing weekend. So nice to spend time with family and also talk to those that we weren’t able to be with. Life may be busy & hectic, but when we take time to pause & reflect, we really do have much to be thankful & grateful for. Each day is a gift ❤

Happy Birthday, Timber!!

Our sweet fur baby, Timber is 13 years young today ❤

{photo credit above: Dawn Geraghty Photography}

We are so honored to have shared these last 13 years with him. I have always said he is our ‘forever puppy’, and Stephen now teases me that I’m in denial that he’s actually a senior dog. My head knows it, but yes, my heart is having a hard time accepting it. We’ve definitely seen signs of him getting older. Even today, as much as I would love to treat him to a fun doggy day, he’s not well. We’ll be making a vet visit here soon. Hopefully, this is just a doggy cold & nothing major. Overall, we know that each moment we have with this guy is precious, and we will treasure whatever time God gives us with him.

He is, and always will be, a member of our little family. He loves us unconditionally, and we love him more than words can express ❤

Fall Fun at Green Meadows

Things have been quiet around here lately but that’s not because we’ve not been busy. Just the opposite actually. It’s been hard to find time to sit down & collect my thoughts. We are definitely feeling the hustle & bustle of the holiday season….not a bad thing, though. Makin’ some family memories, right? ❤

Recently, we took, what’s become an annual trip, to Green Meadows Petting Farm in Kissimmee. It’s such a cute & fun family place. We especially love to visit during the month of October because each guest leaves with a pumpkin that they pick out on the property 🙂

You can check out our past trips here and here

2015-10-18_Green Meadows 28

Each year, I’ve tried to get Mr. Liam to milk the cow. He wants no part of it 😉 …however, this year he did pet Mrs. Cow so that was something new.

2015-10-18_Green Meadows 2

We spent the afternoon with our good friends and had the best time. Liam & Kenadie have been besties since they were babes ❤  ….I seriously can’t believe how much these two have grown up. Especially as I looked back at pics from our visits to the farm the last few years.

Ah, the goats are always a HUGE fave for us 🙂 …so stinkin’ cute! ….& always SO hungry!

Liam got a kick out of the Llama this year because we are now reading the “Llama Llama” books. He thought this guy looked like the character from his books 😉

Happy Halloween!

Trick or Treat!

pumpkin

Seriously, how much fun was Halloween on a Saturday night?!?! I vote to have it on a weekend every year!

2015-10-30_IHOP

We kicked off the weekend with dinner on Friday night at IHOP. Liam got a FREE spooky pancake. So fun!

When we got home there was a special delivery from Papa G & G-Ma –> a Halloween tin of yummy flavored popcorn!

2015-10-30_Popcorn Delivery

2015-10-30_Popcorn Delivery 2

On Saturday, the 1st thing Liam said was: “it’s Trick or Treat day!!!” ….he could barely contain his excitement 😉

We continued our annual tradition of hanging out & eating dinner with our good friends & walking their neighborhood.  While Liam dressed up in a few of his different superhero hero costumes in the various holiday events we attended throughout the month, he had selected Baymax from Disney’s Big Hero 6 movie as his trick-or-treat outfit. He adores that movie! ❤ …I mean, it’s a Disney’s superhero movie, afterall, right?!?! 😉 ….It was hilarious because some of the people handing out candy did not know his costume & asked him if he was an Avenger. He, very matter-of-factly, stated: “No, I am Baymax”.  Then, he would turn around and yell down the driveway, “They thought I was an Avenger!!!”

2015-10-31_Halloween 2

Halloween is the look of mischief…..

2015-10-31_Halloween 5

Daddy did some cool modifications to the wings to get them to stick out and not be flopping around. We glued tongue depressors to the inside flaps & then, he painted them red. The mask also fit a bit tight & squished his nose. Stephen added a few foam pieces (such a thoughtful daddy!)….however, Liam still didn’t keep it on most of the night. Ya know, it’s still pretty hot & sticky here in FL 😉

Let the fun begin!

2015-10-31_Halloween 11

2015-10-31_Halloween 12

Liam was so polite at every house. He said, “trick-or-treat” and then, “thank you” after getting his candy. Then, to each person, I also heard him say, “Happy Halloween!” ….my heart melted! We stayed out for about 2 1/2 hours. We even brought our wagon because we thought he would get tired and need a rest, but no, he trucked along & kept up the whole time. Heck, he even pulled the wagon (by his request) toward the end. The only thing he did ask for was to dump his candy bag and “start over” because his little bag was getting too heavy. This mama had thought about that ahead of time, so I did bring a bigger bag….lol!

2015-10-31_Halloween 13

He ended up with quite the haul of candy by the time we got done. Here he is — tired, hot & sweaty…but so proud of his little stash 🙂

2015-10-31_Halloween 17

It was a great weekend! We were a tired little family when all was said & done, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. When Liam woke up on Sunday morning, he asked if it was still Halloween. I told him, no, it was now November. Then, he asked if was Christmas. I said no again. Little dude proceeded to cry….I felt so bad! Once I explained that Thanksgiving was next & reminded him what that meant, he was ok. Being a 4 year old is tough work sometimes 😉

Here’s a look back on the fun from the last few years:

Welcome October!!

1st week of October is in the books! Yes, this family is excited 🙂 …I think I saw it posted somewhere last week that as of October 1st there were 30 days until Halloween, 58 days until Thanksgiving, and 85 days until Christmas. I’m ready for it! I love this time of the year ❤

2015-10-05_Halloween Deco Collage 2

We brought the fall decorations down from the attic & Liam was thrilled to help me put them up. I like to put up fun Halloween decos for October and then switch it up to more general pumpkin, turkey, and fall-leaved themed things for November.

2015-10-05_Halloween Deco Collage 1

We have some fun family activities planned over the next few weeks, so that always helps to keep us in the holiday spirit….even when the temperatures here in FL make us sometime question it 😉

Halloween Pumpkin

We kicked things off a few weeks back with a trip to Legoland. I had scored us an awesome promo deal for tickets through the Children’s Home Society of FL …we literally all got into the park for less than a full price ticket at the gate. So awesome!! Best of all, a portion of what we paid for went to their agency.

Loved seeing the cool Halloween Lego displays throughout the park! Can you see little dude’s head peaking out of the big pumpkin Lego below? 🙂

Legoland

We were uber excited this visit because little man was tall enough to ride a few of the “bigger kid” rides. He chose ‘Merlin’s Challenge’ — a mini Himalaya flat ride. I think the smile on his face tells you how much he enjoyed it 🙂 …this mama actually got dizzy…lol!!

2015-09-19_Legoland Merlins Challenge Collage

Since starting Pre-K, Liam has had some enjoyable events at school, as well. The 1st was Pirate Week, which ended with a fun Pirate Parade. We squeezed him into his ‘Jake & the Neverland Pirates’ costume to wear for it. Seriously, he was THE cutest!! They also had Community Helpers Week, and had special visitors to the school from Dr’s, Police Officers, and the Fire Dept. He LOVED it.

I’m not sure how/when it started, but Liam frequently asks me to tell him a story when he’s falling asleep about Super Hero Liam and Super Dog Timber. So, I try to be a ‘cool mom’ and make up fantastic stories of these great adventures that he & Timber go on. It definitely challenges my creativity and story telling skills 😉 ….then, one day at school, we see this neon plastic guy with a dog. Clearly, I know it’s designed to flag parents to slow it down through the parking lot…..however, my child immediately says, “Mommy, it’s superhero Liam & super dog Timber! They are at my school!” He was thrilled! I thought it was hilarious that is what he thought of when looking at them. So….we took a picture. And, each time we see these guys, he says hello to his new friends. LOL! One day, I will definitely tell him this story 🙂

Superhero Liam

In other news, we went to a good friend’s birthday party at a local Sports Complex last weekend….and yes, even in hot & sunny FL, we ice skated. Liam was overjoyed!! I, on the other hand, ….could not move the next day 😛

It really was so fun, though, and I am happy that I could introduce him to something I loved to do as part of my upbringing in New England. Next time, we’ll hopefully convince Daddy to get out there with us!

Welcome to Pre-K

Hard to believe, but we are finishing up our 1st month of Pre-Kindergarten over here. We have always referred to daycare as “school” around our house, and now, we are in the “big kids school” 😉 … At Liam’s school, the Pre-K Department is housed in an entirely separate building from the rest of the daycare, so he really does feel extra special and more grown-up now. It’s been a whole new experience for all of us, and more than anything, we are just happy that he is enjoying it & continuing to thrive.

To help with this transition to Pre-K, the school put the kids back with their new teachers at the beginning of the summer. At first, I have to admit that I was leary of this decision…..mainly, it was my mama heart not wanting him to reach this stage yet. But, we can’t hold them back now can we? 🙂 — He did AWESOME over the summer & both Stephen and I absolutely LOVE his new teacher. We have seen so many changes already. It’s incredible how fast they grow — independence, the “i can do it myself” is really there now, he’s learning to write letters & numbers, he brings art projects home & sometimes we see him do things we had no idea he could do (like coloring inside the lines)….SO COOL!

2015-08-24_1st Day Pre K_edited

Liam really connected with his teacher, Ms. Samar, over the summer, and we’re looking forward to a great year ahead with her. With that said, I wanted to do something extra special to start off his Pre-K year and express our excitement for this milestone. Thus, I took to Pinterest and found some ideas for creating a “Back to School Kit”. My ideas came from several different sites so I cannot credit just one person, but I will tell you that this is not my original idea….I put it all together from other mamas with similar interests in mind ❤

All of the items were purchased from my fav spot, Target, and all were $1 or just at that price range….so, it definitely did not break the bank. If you decide to do something similar you can make your “kit” as large or small as you wish! The basket I used to put it all in was also from the Target Dollar Spot! — score!

This basket I created was featured as part of the Fall / Back-to-School Issue of The Moms Magazine. You can check it out here.

BTS Teacher Kit

I was anticipating the 1st day of Pre-K to be hectic, as we knew that there would be many new friends starting that Monday. So, we opted to deliver Ms. Samar’s basket on the Friday before. It worked out perfectly because that was the “End of the Summer” party day 🙂 ….here’s a quick pic I snapped of Liam holding it just before we headed to school (can you tell he was THRILLED with me for this photo op?….LOL!)

2015-08-21_Liam BTS Kit edited

When putting the kit together, I had decided to make it fun and a little campy, so each of my items had a specific meaning. I wanted Liam’s teacher to know why we chose each item, so I put this fun list with descriptions inside the basket.

MsSamarBTS

Since we made such a big deal out of starting Pre-K, I wanted to also do something special for Liam’s 1st day. Let’s not forget the excitement we all felt getting ready for a new school year, and the butterflies we had in our bellies. So, for him, I made a “Back to School Celebration Kit” Again, I found this from various ideas on Pinterest, and it is designed to be easy & budget friendly.

I put the items in a sandwich size ziploc bag and hid it in his backpack. On the drive to school that 1st morning, I told him I put something special in his backpack. He could look at it when he got to school, if he wanted to, but he couldn’t open it up until I picked him up. That made him smile so big 🙂 …he was very excited!!  Since Liam is not old enough to read yet, I didn’t make an insert like I did for his teacher’s basket. Instead, I just talked about why I gave him each item. I think it made for a good conversation piece for us after school, as it was one of the 1st things he asked about after pick up.

For this kit, here’s what I put in & what each item meant:

Glow stick: to remind you to always share your bright ideas

Eraser: to let you know that it’s okay to make mistakes. That’s how we learn!

Stickers: to remind you that we are family & we always stick together

Pencil: to let you know that you are going to learn SO much this year

Starburst: to let you know that you are always a star

Chocolate Hugs: to remind you that your new teacher cares about you & is excited to have you in her class this year

Lifesavers: Mommy & Daddy are here to help you. Don’t be afraid to come to us if you need anything.

BTS Celebration Kit

One of my favorite things is walking into Liam’s classroom & seeing the art projects they worked on that day hanging on the wall or {now} the letters & numbers they practiced writing that day. He is also VERY proud to lead us over by hand & point out his work <3.

Here is his ‘self-portrait’ that he did during his 1st week. When he was showing it to me, he was like, “aww, I forgot my arms” ….haha! Love him!

2015-08-26_Liam Self Portrait Art

If you follow me on Instagram, then you saw his 1st family portrait that he did recently. We were blessed with this fabulous art project that he did at school just this week. It’s his family tree & it is just the cutest!! I love that he included all 3 of us, including our dog, Timber (at the bottom). He even noted to me that he drew red AND brown apples on the tree. So creative!

Family Tree Art

Another new experience for us is “extra activities” that are sent home to work on during the week. To get ready for what’s to come down the road, we’ve been calling it ‘homework’. Now, don’t get me wrong….this is not in any way a time consuming task. Trust me, a 4 year old’s attention span cannot handle it. It’s also not something he is penalized for. It’s just good extra practice to help reinforce what they are learning about for that week’s lessons, and it also helps us parents be engaged in his learning. Stephen & I decided to divide up what is sent home each Monday (it’s due back on Friday), so little man really only spends about 5 minutes working. It’s tasks like tracing letters & numbers and coloring shapes.

Switching gears a little bit —

We recently also had little dude’s 4 year check up! Good times!

He is currently 41 lbs & 3 ft. 4 inches. That’s 2 1/5 inches taller since last year & up 4 lbs., as well. Definitely growing like a weed, as he should be, but thankful that he is super healthy.

He was a trooper during his check up & even got his blood pressure taken like a big boy this time. I had asked him if he wanted to sit on either me or Daddy’s lap & he said, no….so independent 😉

Since his birthday is later in the summer and at this time next year, we will be prepping to start Kindergarten (gah, don’t even get me started!…lol!) we opted to do his 5-year booster vaccinations this year. Can you believe we’ll be thinking about Kindergarten registration in the Spring???? Anyhow, his doctor told us he is now done with vaccinations until middle school. WOW!

4yr checkup

Our little man is growing up SO FAST right before our eyes. We cherish every second with this dude — he is such a blessing & so full of love! Looking forward to a fantastic year ahead as we venture through Pre-Kindergarten!!! 🙂

100 Years of Magic ~ Disney On Ice Fun

Last Friday, we headed to the Amway Center for a night of family fun. Clearly, someone was pretty pumped about that….

2015-09-04_Disney On Ice_Liam

We were super excited to be able to attend the VERY FIRST showing EVER of Disney On Ice’s new show — 100 YEARS OF MAGIC 🙂

It was a fantastic event & definite fun for the whole family. Be sure to check their schedule here to see if the show is coming to a city near you soon! Also check out my previous post here to catch up on a little bit of background for the show.

2015-09-04_Disney On Ice_1

The show opened with our classic & all-time favs — Mickey, Minnie, Donald & Goofie ❤

I love the Disney On Ice shows because they remind me of the Ice Capades shows that I used to watch as a child. Having the opportunity to share these same kinds of memories with my little one is pretty special to me.

2015-09-04_Disney On Ice_2

Various Disney & Pixar movies were incorporated throughout the show. Obviously, Frozen made an appearance. I am not kidding when I tell you that the ENTIRE Amway Center sang along to “Let It Go”…..

2015-09-04_Disney On Ice_3

Aladdin has always been one of my favs ….<3 you Genie!

2015-09-04_Disney On Ice_4

Liam was over the moon to see the gang from Toy Story 🙂 ….I didn’t get a good picture but before these guys came out, the army men did a little number that was awesome!

2015-09-04_Disney On Ice_5

Lion King! …..this one will always hold a special place for us, as that was the theme of Liam’s nursery 🙂

2015-09-04_Disney On Ice_6

All the kiddos (and adults, too….let’s not deny it, peeps) were thrilled to see the Disney Princesses skate out onto the ice. Definitely one of the more magical moments!

2015-09-04_Disney On Ice_7

Here’s a peak of the show’s finale …..ended just as good as it began!

Such a great family night! We left with our hands full (popcorn, cotton candy, & a sword….lol!) and our hearts full of wonderful memories. Thank you to Feld Entertainment for this amazing opportunity for my family!

Labor Day Weekend Wrap-Up

Long weekends are so nice for taking some family time to rest & relax. It was extra nice over this weekend, as we celebrated the Labor Day holiday, and (in what has become our American tradition) said an unofficial good-bye to summer. However, we all know that the temps here in FL will not be dying down anytime soon — so pool-time & flip flops remain a staple around here for us 😉

We kicked off our weekend with a little Disney On Ice on Friday evening.

2015-09-04_Disney On Ice_family selfie

It was their BRAND NEW 100 Years of Magic show, and it actually was the very 1st showing of it. More to come about the entire show later this week with lots more pics!! It was fantastic!

2015-09-04_Disney On Ice_1

Saturday morning, we headed to MyGym for Liam’s class. We’ve actually decided to take a break for the fall, as we have a busy schedule ahead of us, but he absolutely LOVES this place. We only have a few weeks left. I’ll have a post about our fun times with them soon. Ms. Dana is amazing ❤

2015-09-05_mygym

Sunday morning, we packed our bags & hit the road to Jacksonville. My dad & step-mom call Jax home & it had been far too long since we all had seen one another. A road trip with an older pup and a 4 year old was definitely interesting….even if it was just for a few hours. Let’s just say we didn’t make it there without stopping 😉

2015-09-06_Labor Day Weekend 1

No worries here if little man would be leery of his Papa G since he hadn’t seen him in a while. The two became as thick as thieves, and Liam had a ball with him. He followed him around and wanted to help him with everything he did. Even watering the plants outside. It was so cute ❤

2015-09-06_Labor Day Weekend 12

My step-mom (G-ma to little man) broke out their ice cream maker on Sunday night & Liam was in heaven.

2015-09-06_Labor Day Weekend 3

Don’t turn your back on a 4 year old with a spoon & an open container of cool whip….LOL!!!

2015-09-06_Labor Day Weekend 2

On Monday, we headed out to the beach for a bit. I am not kidding when I tell you that Liam has been asking to go to the beach ALL.SUMMER.LONG. — We definitely have to do a better job of taking more beach trips next summer. This kid cannot get enough of it.

I love this shot I snapped really quick. Stephen & I didn’t even have our shoes off yet, and he was already off running toward the water with my dad 🙂

2015-09-07_Labor Day Weekend 5

Most of the time in Jax, if you were looking for Liam, this is where you found him….in the pool. He even called himself a little fish. He thought it was THE GREATEST thing ever that he got to be in the ocean water and the pool water in the SAME DAY 🙂

Can’t forget the fur baby. He, of course, came along for the trip. He especially loves Papa G & G-Ma’s house because of the doggy doors & the free reign to go in and out all day long (a luxury he doesn’t get at home 😉 )

Liam said Timber had a good time with his Aunt & Uncle dog …haha! Love that! …Stephen & I said he was more on a “food-cation” than a vacation. That was all he did this weekend — eat & beg!
