Just Keep Swimming: Our Little Fish

This post has been a long time in the making. Mainly because it took me forEVER to get all these pics & videos off my phone & organized ๐Ÿ™‚ …However, I really wanted to share the journey we had a few months back of Liam learning to swim. It really was quite the experience — fun, tiring (for ALL of us), hard work for him, for sure, & at times, emotional for this mama.

We started lessons on Monday, April 7th & he finished the program on Thursday, June 4th. In our area of town, there’s a few companies that we could have selected. Obviously, some might say, why not just teach him yourself & save a few bucks…..Well, good point, I guess, but we just didn’t feel comfortable doing that. Florida is surrounded by bodies of water. We wanted him to be taught life saving skills in the water. In a split second the unthinkable could happen. We wanted him to be prepared for that, and bottom line — We don’t feel that you can put a price on your child’s life. Teaching him these skills was just too important to us, so we made it happen.

We were thrilled that we could get him onto the schedule with SwimSprout. This is THE most fabulous group of ladies, and I am saying that because I am a happy mama whose child can now swim…not because anyone asked me to say that. Liam loves these ladies, and evenย two months since he finished lessons and he is still asking to go to Ms. Heidi’s house for swim lessons when I pick him up from school. To me, that tells you something special ๐Ÿ™‚

What Liam was taught over the 9 week period that he went for lessons (our schedule was extended because of weather delay’s & sickness) was basic water safety & survival. I feel like I could write you a book about all that Ms. Heidi & Ms. Katie taught us, butย I’m not the expert in all that jazz, so if you’re interested in it for your little one, please go to their website or link to their private Facebook group from their site. If you’re not in our area, you can find more info by searching Infant Self-Rescue.

Now, for the good stuff! Here’s some highlights from our swimming adventures ๐Ÿ™‚

Waiting patiently to start lessons on Day #1

ย Our lessons started with correcting Liam’s posture in the water from us using one of those puddle jumper vests all last summer. Oops! We honestly had no idea that it was actually “bad” to use that and does nothing to teach a child life saving skills if they fall in a pool without it on. You just don’t think about it. Lesson learned! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Week #1
Week #1
Week #2
Week #2

It was a running joke that Liam would smile & say “yes” to anything that Ms. Katie or Ms. Heidi asked of him. Hilarious! Besides the first day or two, this kid never cried. He loved it!

The puddle jumper vest just allowed him to kinda float along in the water and not use his legs, so it was hard to get him to start kicking at first and get moving. Here’s some early video of that process….

Once we got his feet moving, we couldn’t get them to stop ๐Ÿ™‚ — part of learning to float is having what Ms. Katie called, “quiet toes” ย — Liam did not like having quiet toes…lol, as you can see in this clip below:

Week #5 -- listening closely to Ms. Katie
Week #5 — listening closely to Ms. Katie

Once he got the floating down, he was taught to roll from his back into the water and swim again. Essentially, putting the whole process together was called swim/float/swim. Here’s a clip when it first clicked and he put it all together — then, in a rare moment for him, he got ticked off at the end ๐Ÿ˜‰

Week #7 - cheesing it up!
Week #7 – cheesing it up!

Toward the end of his lessons, he got to be quite the strong swimmer and got awesome at holding his breath. Almost, too good! Ms. Katie had to keep putting him further and further away from the steps because he kept reaching them so fast AND not rolling over onto his back to take a breath….what a stinker!

6/4/14 -- quick selfie to show how excited we were on swim test day -- NOT so excited once he actually got into the pool, but he did AWESOME!

June 4th was his swim test day & he did great! I think it was harder for us to watch than anything. I video-taped it, but it’s a looong video & the lighting is terrible so I chose not to post. Instead, here’s a clip of little man from just over a month ago. We are proud that he is still swimming strong & having fun in the pool. On this day, he wanted to swim in the deep end with Daddy ๐Ÿ™‚

What a great experience this has been for our entire family!! We can’t wait to catch up with Ms. Heidi & Ms. Katie in the fall for a refresher session.

32 Months

So, we blinked & another month has gone by. Liam Michael seems to be growing by leaps & bounds here lately, so while I don’t do this each month, I thought it would be fun to give you a 32 month update with 32 fun facts about our little guy.

1. I have been taking pictures of him periodically with the same teddy bear since he was born. I thought this would be neat way to measure his growth as time went on. Enjoy this Flipogram of these pics, including this week’s picture!

2. Liam shares the same middle name as his daddy ๐Ÿ™‚

3. He has just recently gotten interested in watching Disney movies, or any cartoon movie. I have to admit that I am secretly excited about this…even though, we are now watching the SAME movie like a broken record. His current favs are Toy Story 1 AND 2, and Frozen.

2014-03-26_frozen collage

4. One of his favorite parts in Toy Story 2 is when the Toys are trying to figure out where Al took Woody. He loves when Hamm, the piggy bank, says ‘picky, picky, picky’ …. in reference to the Etch-A-Sketch drawing of Al. He giggles & recites that part.

5. His favorite character from Frozen is Olaf the snowman. I admit, as well, that little snowman is pretty damn funny. Liam really gets a kick out of the summertime song that Olaf sings. He will also give a pretty mean rendition of ‘Let It Go’ ๐Ÿ˜‰

6. He has a small white dalmation puppy that he sleeps with every night. His name is, “puppy”. Daddy got it from a local drugstore one day last year when picking up a Rx for him after a visit to the Dr.’s. A very random purchase that has turned into the greatest bond ๐Ÿ™‚

2014-03-09_sleeping prince

7. Current fav foods: Publix popcorn chicken, Cheez-It Snack Mix (or, as he calls it, ‘cheese crackers & pretzel & puffs’), Reese’s (special treat for going potty), french toast with syrup (P.S…this kid gets COVERED in syrup..omg! ha!)

8. Current fav drinks: water & milk are still our staples, so that is good. We did introduce apple juice because of potty training so that’s a new choice at home but I am still grateful my kid loves his water.

9. For some reason, he loves soccer balls. He has a few pairs of socks with soccer balls on them & he will always ask for them. Really have no idea where this comes from, as neither Stephen or I play or watch….but we will foster that.

10. Liam has been in sports classes at school since early Fall 2013, called Playball. They not only teach the basic concepts of many sports activities, but they also teach the kids about physical education, health, and teamwork. We really like that and he definitely enjoys the lessons. That may be where his love of soccer is coming from. He also is developing quite the little arm on him!

11. He loves our dog, Timber. He is so gentle with him and we always tell him that Timber is his big brother. He calls Timber his ‘white doggy’ …It really is the cutest thing when you hear that little voice say, ‘I want my white doggy’.

2014-03-01_morning snuggles 002

12. About 2 weeks ago, Stephen & I realized that our little guy’s toes were about to bust out of his shoes. Yeap, he’s a growing, peeps! So, we paid a visit to my fav children’s shoe store, Stride Rite, and got his feet measured — 8 1/2 wide! He picked out his new kicks. Check ’em out:

2014-03-22_new shoes_9W

13. So, some of you know that we have camera access to him at daycare. I like to peak at him when I can to see how he’s doing. Sometimes, I catch some pretty darn hilarious tid bits. For instance, a few weeks back, it was one of his little friends birthday & the class was having cupcakes for snack time to celebrate. Yes, this may seem crazy but I snapped a pic of the camera to capture this very comical moment of my child literally shoveling cupcakes in his mouth with both hands….

2014-03-06_shoving cupcakes

14. Apparently, Liam picked up on me telling him that I am not happy with him at times when I felt he was misbehaving. I say this because now when he knows he has done something he is not supposed to do, he will look at me and say, “Soooo, you not happy with me right now??” ….I almost cracked up laughing the 1st time that munchkin voice spit that out….where do they come up with these things?!?! …oh yeah, from us!! LOL

15. A few of his fav phrases right now: “I do it myself” ; “Five more minutes” (response to anything when you tell him it’s time to stop doing something, go to bed, eat, etc.) ; “I want a snack”

16. It’s pretty much amazing to me that you can now have a full out conversation with Liam. I love to ask him questions about his day at school and see the responses he comes up with. Really hilarious sometimes. I hear about reading stories, finding frogs on the playground, how funny he thinks he & his friends are (literally, he says that), and that he thinks a few of the girls are beautiful (aww!).

17. Potty Training — we are in week 6 now of this lovely process. I stand by my previous comments and will still have a separate post about it SOON. I will say this for now, though, I think Liam has done amazingly well and we are still diaper free!

18. Anytime Liam sees crumbs in the car or his car seat, he always tell me that we “gotta vacuum” …without fail, I get told that…basically, mommy, your car is dirty & you should clean it.

19. Yesterday, we got out of the car and Liam saw that our driveway was covered in the pieces of pollen (we have FOUR oak trees in our front yard). He looked at me and said, “We gotta clean up this mess. Daddy needs to mow.” LOL!!! I about died laughing!! Where does this little person come up with these things?!?!

20. He ate his 1st bowl of cereal on March 23rd. In my book, this was a momentous occasion, as he asked for cereal with milk. I don’t know why, but that just seemed like such a big boy thing. So, of course, I took a picture ๐Ÿ™‚

2014-03-23_1st bowl cereal

21. The boy LOVES music, dancing, & singing! Here he is belting out “Let It Go” in the car with Daddy …or, maybe eating the air conditioning…I’ll let you be the judge.

2014-04-01_singing

22. We are in a comfortable size 3T clothes now with a mix of some 4T here & there.

23. Liam is starting swim lessons on Monday and we are VERY excited for that. More details & pics to come in future posts!

24. He is a pro at turning the speaker bar on & off for the TV. I think he thinks that’s one of his little jobs because we always ask him to do it now. He can also turn the TV off if you ask him.

25. Gone are the days when we can pick out any outfit we want for him. He is a mini fashionista and already has to have a say in what shirt & shorts he is going to wear. Not to mention, his socks and undies…hey, the patterns, on those matter, too, ya know?!?! It even goes all the way down to his shoes….Tonka Trucks, Captain America, or Lightening McQueen? ๐Ÿ™‚

26. He is very independent when out at the stores and is hard-pressed to ride in the shopping carts anymore. He “wants to walk”.

27. He is a little bookworm. Can’t get enough of his books!

28. Thomas the Train is one of his favs and we are slowly building quite the collection of the wooden train cars. He loves learning all the names of the different engines.

29. He has always had the most pleasant & mellow personality, but we are definitely starting to see small spurts where he tests us to see what he can get away with. Very interesting how quickly their little demeanor can change when they aren’t getting their way.

30. His fav place to eat / snack at home is his picnic table…Timber’s fav place to sneak is underneath it!! ….no crumb is left behind!! Dangerous duo, those two!

31. He is learning how to brush his teeth on his own. He likes to watch himself in the mirror while he does it. Of course, we brush for him 1st or after, but he likes to try & it’s good for him.

32. Last, but DEFINITELY NOT LEAST, Liam is THE MOST loving child EVER!! If I’ve said it once, then I’ve said it a thousand times….we are blessed!! Nothing is better than those little arms going around your neck and getting a hug & a kiss. He will often ask you for a “big hug” ๐Ÿ™‚

*************

Whew!!! Are you still with me?!?! Did you make it ’till the end? Kudos to you, if you did. That was a lot of writing! Hahaha!! Well, I enjoyed bragging about our little guy for a bit, so if you are reading this, then I hope your enjoyed reading it just as much!!

Monday Funnies

I don’t know about you, but the weather here in our neck of the woods over this past weekend was gorgeous!! Makes coming back into the office a little blah today….

So, with that, here’s a little fun from over the weekend to hopefully make you smile on this Monday!

We shopped around over the weekend for a new kitchen faucet. I was in love with the one we had installed almost 6 years ago when we bought the house, but time & local area construction (that’s our guess, anyhow) caused excessive calcium deposit buildup & it became just too yucky to deal with anymore…..so sad. I didn’t remember how expensive these little suckers are, either…yikes!! We ended up picking a different finish from the previous one we had (oil rubbed bronze) & opted for brushed nickel this go around. Stephen did a great job & I think the new one looks great!

photo (3)

The BEST part was that while Stephen was hard at work, Liam wandered into the kitchen & snatched up part of the old faucet. Here is what transpired next. I think it’s one of his best performances to date….

…And, there you have it! Liam’s original version of Itsy Bitsy Spider while using the faucet head as a mic! Hilarious!!! My fave part is about a minute into the video.

Happy Monday, Peeps!!!

Our Latest & Greatest

Last weekend, we had a whole lotta fun with this little guy. UCF hosted one of the “Touch-A-Truck” events that have been happening across Central FL in recent months, so we took advantage of this fun, FREE event to let Liam explore some of the big trucks that we see in our adventures driving around town. He thoroughly enjoyed it. Although, I will say, that I wish UCF also did the “horn free” times like the down-town event does, but that’s ok. The horns blowing on all the trucks (from the kiddos honking them) kinda scared our little man for a majority of the time, but then, he ended up honking the horn in this forklift ๐Ÿ™‚

Bulldozer….this was as close as he was willing to get at the moment. As I scrolled through these pictures, I couldn’t believe how grown up he was looking. Where is my baby going???

2014-03-01_TouchATruck 010

One of the horses from Orange County Sheriff’s Office was there. Since he LOVES his Mimi’s horses, he was thrilled to see this horse. However, he did not understand why he couldn’t sit on it. Haha!!

2014-03-01_TouchATruck 017

They did have a saddle to test out, though….that was fun!

2014-03-01_TouchATruck 018

One of the K-9’s from the UCF PD was also on hand….another high point for us. Liam was all like, “hi doggy!”. The officer was very kind and let us say hello.

2014-03-01_TouchATruck 030

We also thought it would be extra fun to take Liam someplace “magical” for dinner. So, Daddy decided for us all to go to the Gaylord Palms Hotel because they have the boat restaurant (Sunset Sams), and we could eat there. Liam has been pretty into Jake & the Neverland Pirates lately, so we told him this boat at the hotel was a pirate ship, like from Jake.

When we got there, we explored the hotel for a bit. It’s really a very cool place with so many interesting things to see. Outside, they had a few fireplaces going. Liam was VERY excited about these, as you can see….

There was a gigantic fishing pole to play with. Liam called it a “crank” ๐Ÿ™‚

In the middle of the hotel, there was a beautiful two-story castle like structure to explore. With waterfalls…and even, small gators & turtles. Liam was amazed!!! So much fun to see through his eyes.

In other news this week….

I NEVER win anything, BUT this week, I was super excited to win a $50 gift card from Liam’s daycare!!! I completed some online reviews for the daycare and was entered into a raffle.

Liam’s school celebrated Fat Tuesday with style this week!! Clearly, he was enjoying himself. This snapshot was during their little Mardi Gras parade.

Several of you have asked about potty training updates. If you follow me on Instagram (@casademurphy) or on my personal facebook page, then you have some update, as I have posted some pics there. I will post on it….believe me, I have LOTS to say. I am just not there yet. I will tell you that, overall, things are going well with Liam, and we are still diaper free. We have definitely had our challenges, though. Potty Training is hard work…no doubt about that.

Until next time, peeps! Hope you all have a fab weekend & Happy Friday!!!

February 2014, Latest & Greatest News

Our Week in Review

Last week sure was busy, right?!?! I feel like I start off each week with the greatest of plans to get ahead with cleaning & organizing throughout the week and then, the week gets by me before I know it…Oh well!

Friday was the National Wear Red Dayย 2014 to raise awareness against the No.1 killer for us, ladies — heart disease. So, in honor of the cause, I sported my red for the day. However, I will also share that I’ve been making many lifestyle changes over these last few months to improve my health for not only myself, but also, for my family. One of these changes included a trip to the cardiologist and getting a stress test. VERY THANKFUL that my results came back clear but I will admit, that it was scary waiting for them to come back because you never know what could be found. If you can get checked, I would recommend it. It can’t hurt. I did it for a few reasons, but mainly because I want to better myself and FEEL BETTER — be more healthy. I want to see my child grow up …he’s my main motivation to be a better me!! ๐Ÿ™‚

2014-02-07_wear red day

In other news, potty training has been a huge focus in Casa de Murphy, as of late. You will most likely hear me talk about quite a bit coming up, as we are gearing up to do a FULL ON switch over from diapers to underwear with little man. Whew…pray for me! LOL …I think Liam is totally ready….just not sure about me.

Up until last week, while Liam has done wonderfully with going potty at home very often, he has flat out refused to even set foot in the bathroom at school. Then, last week, he had a break through! He used the potty at school a few times!!! A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! Never thought I would be so proud to hear him say, “mommy, I used the potty”, but I was when he came running up to me at pick up & said that.

2014-02-07_used potty at school_rm300

Another milestone is coming up…we got word last week that Liam will be moving on up to the 2 1/2 to 3 year old room on Monday, the 17th. He’s already been spending a little bit of time, here & there, in that room, and it’s right next door, so it won’t be a shocker. Another plus, is that he LOVES his new teacher, Ms. Candice. She’s the one who got him to use the potty at school for the 1st time AND in her room..well, the boy’s potty room in there….haha!! I think he will do great in his new room, so we are all excited for this new change.

2014-02_transition to room 300

The weather over the weekend was not the most fun. I guess compared to snow in most other parts of the country, we can’t complain….but the rain get a big thumbs down from me. Aunt Heather & baby cousin, Sierra came to visit for awhile on Saturday afternoon. Getting any pictures with Liam & Sierra was a big fail on my part.

After they left, we took Liam to Barnes & Noble to play with the Thomas & Friends train table. Since we got the train table at home, oh my goodness, this little dude is obsessed with Thomas the Train and his choo-choo’s!!! WOW…totally didn’t see that coming, but it is super cute to see him getting into them.

Since we only had a few Thomas trains with what we got with the table, we had taken him there to buy James the train, as he saw him on one of the movies we watched {yes, we are also watching Thomas on Netflix….lol}. HOLY COW, no one told us that Thomas & Friends as so pricey!!! Granted, they are very good quality trains {we are sticking with just the wooden choo-choo’s} but, oh man!! Definitely an investment.

2014-02-08_thomas_trains_BN

On Sunday, the sun finally made an appearance, so we took advantage of that & played outside! Liam enjoyed using the bubbles in his bubble mower for the 1st time. He kept wanting to stop to look at the bubbles & not realizing that if he did that, the bubbles would stop coming out….funny!

We’re looking forward to Valentine’s Day at the end of the week!!

Until next time!! ๐Ÿ™‚

January 2014, Latest & Greatest News

Hello Two and A Half!

It’s been quite a while since I posted an update on Liam’s age or a monthly update, but since we’ve hit another milestone today, I thought it would be fun to do so. On this last day of January, our little man is a whopping TWO & A HALF…how is that possible, really?!?! Weren’t we just celebrating his birthday, and now we are half way to the next one? Good grief, time is going by at lightening speed!

Ever since this last birthday, I have pretty much abandoned referring to his age by months, but in honor of the occasion, AND to continue our teddy bear pic tradition, here we go:

2014-01-31_30 months

It’s definitely hard to get an active little man to sit still for a pic these days….

2014-01-31_30 months collage

Below is a recent cute Sunday morning pic of Liam coloring. I think he looks so grown-up here just soaking up the rays with his little feet in the air and crayons in hand. Care-free! ๐Ÿ™‚

2013-01-20_coloring collage

AGE:30 months / 2 1/2 years old

WEIGHT: last check, 33 lbs…my back definitely feels every bit of that!

HEIGHT: he’s definitely grown in the last few months. We need to measure him again. It’s terrible but I don’t remember his exact measurement…next post ๐Ÿ™‚

CLOTHES: He’s in a solid 3T now. I’ve even started to buy 4T for some brand shirts {like Carter’s} that run small on him in order to get more life out of any news clothes {most of his wardrobe is hand-me-downs…huge $$ saver!!}.

FAV FOODS: Lucky for us, Liam is not a picky eater. Although, I would say he is a very decisive eater. Meaning, when he knows what he wants to eat, there is pretty much no changing his mind. Sometimes, that’s a big pain in the a$$. I am sure that is a big part of his age, too. He likes a lot of fruit, especially bananas. I would like to see him eat more veggies but we are working on that. He is a huge fan of the Entemann’s popper doughnut holes {terrible, I know…but tasty, for a little guy}. He also likes to eat COLD mini Eggo pancakes. I cannot even begin to explain why our child likes to eat cold {e.g., frozen} pancakes, but he does. To each, their own! Ha! He also is a big fan of chicken nuggets and mac-n-cheese.

FAV WORDS: Our little chatter box….what doesn’t he say? He has become very good with using his words and pretty darn clear with speaking. Definitely very thankful for that. We went through a brief period ย a few months ago where he was stuttering a bit but that seems to have gotten better. We still hear it at times, but everything I have read says it is normal development so we have never called it out to him & that definitely seemed to help him. “I want a snack” is heard frequently throughout the day”. “Uppey” …but we then look at him until he will actually then say, “Pick me up please”…lol.

He is getting very independent these days, and quite frequently you will hear him say, “I do it myself”. When we went to the Bengel’s birthday party a few weeks back & he had a ball with the bouncy house/slide, we were amazed that he was going up the slide by himself toward the end of the afternoon.

2013-01-11_bouncy house collage

FAV ACTIVITIES: Liam is very good at entertaining himself. I think that comes with him being an only child. Even from what I have observed of him at school, he currently likes to do his own thing a majority of the time, and that’s okay. He really loves to play with his toys, or if we are at home, watch cartoons {Disney Junior…all the way}. He also is been having a great time driving his Power-wheels Jeep and riding his new tricycle that Santa brought. Last drive time, he was even catching on to finally navigating the steering of the jeep…that was cool. No more just driving in circles. haha!

2014-01-19_tricycle

FAV THINGS: Recently, we acquired a train table from a friend and that has opened a WHOLE NEW WORLD to Liam. He is loving his “choo choo’s”. Below is a pic of him with his new loves:

2014-01-25_train table

Some of the trains that we got with the table set are the Thomas the Train brand. Super cute! We are slowly learning about them. They have the names on the bottom of them, and unbelievably, he remembers who each one is. He was walking around the house last night going, “Now where did you go, Gordon??” hahaha…so freakin’ cute!

MILESTONES: We have been practicing potty training! In my book, that is a HUGE milestone, and let me tell you, this kid has been training himself. He is awesome at it. He goes on the big potty and we have had success with both #1 AND #2! He is usually the one to ask us to go, which is unbelievable to me. I know that he is probably ready, at this point, to give up the diapers. For those familiar with the 3-4 day method of full-on potty training, that’s what our plan is…we just have to take a few days off work and commit. My plan is to take a Friday & Monday off and do it over a long weekend. It’s been a big topic of conversation with Liam for a while now and he knows it’s coming. I wish I could capture the big smile he gets when he actually goes potty….he is SO PROUD of himself!! It seriously is the cutest thing ever. And, he always tells me, “I did it!” and then we high five. LOL.

**************************************************

In many ways, I wish I could freeze time and bottle it up…these moments are precious!! But, we definitely look forward to all the new memories yet to be made and special times together.

Happy Half Birthday, Little Man!! ~~ Mommy & Daddy Love You SOOO MUCH!!!!

Bye Bye Paci

I was hesitant ย to ย post this for awhile. Mainly for fear that I would cave & give it back or buy another one more than anything else, but I can now confidently proclaim that we in Casa de Murphy have been PACI FREE since December 11th 2013. For those of us counting, that’s a whopping 4 weeks, today!!!

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!

2013-09-13_lone paci

Liam has slowing been destroying (biting through) paci’s and/or losing ’em over these last few months, so we had been trying to talk to him, as they disappeared, to let him know that once the last one was gone…that was it. We told him that he would be a big boy & not need one anymore. I had been stressing so bad that he would freak out once that day came. And, of course, it came on a morning that Stephen left for work early and I had little man solo. I went to wake him up for school. When I knelt down by his bed, he sat up and handed me paci and said, “paci broken”. I looked down at it and sure enough…almost the entire top of it was bitten off. Thankfully, he didn’t eat it or swallow it or whatever. Clearly, he wasn’t impressed by it.

In that moment, as dramatic as this sounds, a million thoughts ran through my mind. Mainly, “this is it” …”paci’s gone”…”let’s do this”. ย Oh, and “don’t freak out on him!” ….LOL. So, I told him, “Ok, dude, if paci is broken, then let’s go into the kitchen & throw it away. No more paci. You’re a big boy now.” Crazy enough, he said ok! We changed his diaper, and then he walked into the kitchen, opened the garbage can & and threw it away. As he dropped it in, he said, “bye, paci!” LOL

That was the end of it for the morning. Nothing special. No tears. No questions. Regular routine.

Now, after school, was a different story. He wanted paci immediately at pickup. So, we had to talk about what we did that morning and I simply discussed the events step-by-step. He remembered, but wasn’t happy. He fussed but was okay. Bedtime was not cool. I admit that I couldn’t do it. It’s funny that he’s been able to do naptime at school this whole last year and never ask for paci but forget about trying to go to bed at home without it. Stephen had to be the strong one for bedtime the first few nights. There was crying people. Funny, though, because even then, there wasn’t and hasn’t been a whole lotta asking for paci…he just fights to go to bed.

Even now, a month later, he will ask me for paci and laugh…he knows it’s gone. So I laugh back. At this point, he’s making it a game. Silly boy!

However, since Paci has been such a staple in our household these last 2 1/2 years, and literally little dude’s BFF….I thought it only fitting to share some of my fave pics of them together over the years. Corny, I know…but ya gotta admit…pretty darn cute!

January 2014, Latest & Greatest News

Happy New Year!!

We were blessed with another year in 2013, and what a year it was!

Some highlights from 2013…

Greatest Lesson Learned: Parenting is hard AND fun …some days one and some days the other ….aaannnd ย most days both ๐Ÿ™‚

Hardest Thing of the Year: Balancing mommy/daddy time with family time

Favorite Memory: Liam turning 2!! Taking him for his very 1st trip to see his favorite bud, Mickey Mouse at the Magic Kingdom!

What We Loved Most About 2013: Watching our little guy grow & change right before our very eyes. It’s amazing how much he’s changed in this last year! Such a little {talking!!} man with his own unique personality now! We moved him out of his crib this year and into a big boy bed. That was a challenge, but he loves it. More to come about this in a later post, but in recent weeks, we also gave up paci (gasp!…I know!).

Looking Ahead to 2014…

What to Learn: Hmmm, well, there are so many things Liam will learn this coming year & so, we will have many adventures sharing those experiences. I hope to share some of those with you! I’m sure we will laugh together!

What to Get Better At: Tagging onto our hardest thing from 2013, we will try in 2014 to find more balance for couple time & family time.

Biggest Goal: POTTY TRAINING!!!
